Things I Wore in July

I wear a lot of things you don't see on the blog. Half of the time I don't have time to take pictures, the other half I'm just too lazy. And no one needs to see EVERYTHING I wear. But occasionally, I will snap an outfit selfie if I'm feeling myself (I've been trying to share them on instastories). Because I'm thirsty for attention and need you to click my affiliate links to make a nickel, here's what I wore in July.

I stalked these pants for at least a month. Stalking pays off, kids, I got them for $20 off and wore them to work as soon as they arrived. Top, Lush via Trunk Club. Pants, Marks & Spencer (similar from Barney's Warehouse). Shoes, c/o JustFab. Bag, JustFab. Glasses, Karen Walker (exact from The Real Real).

Fully obsessed with this jumpsuit from Loft (loft yes loft that loft the one i have four other black jumpsuits from fight me). It's comfy but cute and dresses up and down effortlessly. Jumpsuit, Loft (here's another one but wide leg that I want now). Shoes, c/o JustFab. Bag, Gucci (EXCELLENT dupe from Nordstrom for just $55!).

Now that I walk to work, my chances for chub rub have tripled. I am BRINGING BACK THE SKORT. Yes, this looks like a skirt in the front, but it's full mom shorts in the back. Top, Old Navy (exact). SKORTS, Belk (exact). Shoes, Charleston Shoe Co (exact - I would size up if you're a 1/2 size).

After moving, being homeless, moving in, not getting all of our stuff for four more days, I had been looking like a trash person for a while. The day after moving I was so excited to be reunited with my wardrobe that I gussied up for the occasion. Top, Elizabeth & Clarke (I LOVE this company for work tops, doing a post soon!). Shorts, I Heart Ronson (similar from H&M). Heels, Valentino (look for less from Century 21).

Snagged this skirt from the Zara sale for like, $10. It's honestly a little big and if I lose one pound will likely fall off. Shirt, H&M (almost exact from Uniqlo). Skirt, Zara (exact). Shoes, JustFab. Necklace, BaubleBar.

I saw someone trying on this top from the Zara sale on Instastories and immediately went to the website to get it. One hour and $100 later, I wore it to a beer festival. It's so fun! Like a cupcake! Top, Zara (s/o but here's a sort of similar from XXI). Jeans, Old Navy (exact). Pretzel necklace, Dollar Tree.

I originally planned on wearing a crop top to my friend Amy's housewarming party, but that felt a little too vampy for such a chill event so I switched to this top/shorts set. Yes, it's SEPARATES. I'm obsessed with tops and bottoms that match right now, because you can wear them on their own or put them together to look like a dress or romper! This particular set has a bunch of variations - there are a couple of different top styles, and you can get cropped pants or shorts. Top, Belk (exact). Shorts, Belk (exact). Heels, Stuart Weitzman (exact / similar from Charlotte Russe).

Let me know if you like this format and I'll keep it going! I love sharing my outfits but until I can get another 100,000 of you buying things off my blog I cannot afford to quit all of my jobs to blog full time and actually have the time to take blog photos (insert the crying laughing emoji here). And of course, if you want to see the outfits in real time give me a follow on Instagram at @ajwearsclothes.

Curly Girl Tips :: How I restyle my curly hair

I love my curly hair. I watched all of Sex and the City in my early 20s, and seeing Carrie Bradshaw's beautiful curls inspired me to embrace my natural texture and learn how to properly fix curls. It has CHANGED my summers - so much easier to wash and go! The thing is, I tend to blow out my hair, straighten it and re-curl it more often than I wear it curly just because it's easy to restyle the next day.

But this year - that changed. I finally have figured out how to restyle my curly hair, and I'm going to share my best tips and tricks with you.

Step One: Wash. Condition. CONDITION SOME MORE.

Obviously. l picked up Schwarzkopf Gliss™ Ultimate Repair Shampoo, Schwarzkopf Gliss™ Ultimate Repair Conditioner, and Schwarzkopf Gliss™ Ultimate Repair Anti-Damage Mask for this post - their main focus is making damaged hair look fabulous. I'm HARD on my hair. Between the bleaching, the heat styling, and the endless ponytails and aggressive brushing, I need all the damage control I can get. I try not to wash my hair too often, so I do a hair mask every time I do to restore all of the moisture I can get.

Step Two: Air hair, don't care.

I have two ways I let my hair dry naturally - if I want Carrie Bradshaw curls, I don't comb through it and try to touch it as little as possible until it dries fully (then I shake it allllll out). If I want looser, beachy waves, I comb through after I get out of the shower.

Step Three: Pineapple Head.

This is the MOST critical step in the restyling process. I use a stretchy little band to scoop all of my head on top of my head. It keeps the curls from getting smashed down by my enormous head, but it's nice and stretchy so it doesn't pull my hair and break it while I sleep. The Gliss helps with that too - it's all Keratin infused to restructure hair and make it up to 90% stronger. Bonus!

Step Four: The restyle

Grab a tapered wand and touch up that top layer! Any pieces that are frizzy or have fallen flat get a couple of seconds with my wand to make them springy again. I usually only have to do this on the second day - these curls stay in tact a little better than my natural ones. I took a selfie every day after washing my hair and wearing it curly so I could show you the progression of my hair each day.

Let's just ignore the fact that I let this hair go to day 5 and 6 - don't worry I still shower if I'm not washing my hair - because this was a weird week and those days I just could not be bothered. The first day is my natural curls, freshly washed and air dried. Day two is after I restyled using my wand. They actually held up incredibly well to day three - then on day four, you can see they've relaxed a bit because I forgot to put it up. When I wake up in the morning, I take out my pineapple hair, put my hands in it up by my scalp, and flip my head over to shake them out. The more body, the better!

If you're sold on the Gliss and want to check out the Ultimate Repair Line, I grabbed mine at Walmart in the shampoo aisle. You can save $5.00 off TWO (2) Schwarzkopf® GLISS™ Shampoo or Conditioner or Treatment with this coupon! All of the elements of Gliss™Hair Repair are meant to work as a little team within their lines - they also have lines for color and moisture!

AJ Wears :: A Layered Crop

Well, I'm officially not homeless anymore. We closed on our condo, moved all of our junk in, and I'm feeling this renewed sense of joy with my closet. I don't know if it's because we were separated for three weeks or just seeing stuff in a new light because it's in a different closet, but getting dressed has been fun again.

This outfit was a big hit on the instastories last week. The shirt is one I bought at Dillard's one day because I didn't like my outfit and had plans after work. The crop is from Everlane, bought with the idea that I'd pair it with high-waisted pants or skirts but never got around to wearing. And the pants you've seen before, a prize pair I found on sale after deciding I was going to dress more like Rachel Zoe. It's one of those outfits that I just felt great wearing, you know?  And you know I love a good, "Wait until you see the back!" moment.

Top, BCBG (exact - on sale!).
Crop, Everlane.
Pants, ABS (similar from Macy's).
Bag, Coach (similar color from Target).
